Washington is a state in the most north western corner of the United States and is named after George Washington, the First President. Washington State offers rugged coastline, mountains, volcanoes, and hundreds of coastal islands to explore. The west has rain forests, the centre has mountain ranges, and eastern areas are semi-deserts.
The Seattle metropolitan area is the centre of transportation, business, and industry, and home to an internationally known arts community. More than half of Washington's residents live here. Its attractions range from historic tours of the Pacific Northwest to zoos and outdoor recreation.
Washington is the birthplace of specialty coffee and home to well-crafted local wines and "microbrewery" beers.
