Michigan is located in the heart of the Great Lakes region of America and is comprised of two major peninsulas. Whilst fifty percent of Michigan is forest land, it has more miles of coastline than any state but Alaska. With its almost 65,000 inland lakes and ponds, Michigan offers every type of activity based in, on and around water. In winter the water turns to snow and ice and great cross-country skiing can be found in both peninsulas.
Thousands of miles of beaches and wild beautiful forests bring vacationers, hunters, and nature enthusiasts from across the United States and Canada. Cherries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and wine draw large numbers to events like the Tulip Time Festival and the National Cherry Festival. The state capital Detroit includes leading attractions, particularly The Henry Ford, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Detroit Zoo.
