Kansas, a state in the Midwestern region of the United States of America, is nicknamed "the Heart of America." Its name comes from the Kansas River which curves across the land from west to south east. The spring and summer months bring severe thunderstorms with high winds and hail, and tornadoes are common. Due to the movie the Wizard of Oz, many non-Kansans think of it as a place from which to escape.
Attractions in Kansas range from the educational, like The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center and The Kansas Museum of History, to the entertaining, such as The Wizard of Oz Museum in Wamego and the world's largest ball of twine in Cawker City. The Capital and third-largest city of Kansas is Topeka which presents a fantastic Zoo and many modern recreation facilities.
